Commercial, Construction, Estate Litigation Lawyer in Barrie
Mary obtained her law degree from Queen’s University and was called to the bar in 1987. She has been a partner of the firm since 1999.
Mary’s practice is focused on commercial and contractual disputes, construction liens, expropriation and estate litigation. Her work for the County of Simcoe, the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board as well as numerous private clients requires her to argue cases before the Ontario Municipal Board, the Ontario Superior Court, the Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal. She does both plaintiff and defence work and represents both expropriating authorities as well as land owners. In order to avoid the high cost of trials and address her clients’ need for quick and effective resolutions of their matters, Mary takes pride in negotiating settlements at an early stage of the proceedings whenever possible, either through formal mediation or negotiation with opposing counsel. She is certified as a mediator by the Conflict Consensus Institute.
Mary has been a Big Sister and served on that agency’s Board of Directors. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the MacLaren Art Centre and is a member of the Barrie Construction Association and the Greater Barrie Home Builders’ Association. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Barrie Kempenfelt and is one of the club’s past presidents.
Mary lives in Barrie and has two teenaged daughters. She is an avid participant in equestrian sports, has her own horse and competes in the hunter discipline. She is also a certified literacy tutor with the Barrie Literacy Council.
